Multiple Teams · Runnin’ Rattlers Compete at District

The Runnin’ Rattlers traveled to Walter E. Long park on Friday, October 7th to compete at the District 14- 6A Cross Country championship with the boys team having a shot to defend their team championship title.

To start the morning off the Varsity Girls took to the 5k course and competed well against some tough competition. This week the lady Rattlers were lead by the Junior Mary Finch and her 7th place, regional qualifying, finish. Mary completed the course in 21:04 and was followed by freshman, Eliana Hernandez placing 25th overall. The varsity girls were rounded out by Sophomores Maddison Teague and Arabella Snook, Seniors Isabel Rodriguez, Anahi Pichardo, Ashley Rodriguez.

The Varsity boys ran the  next race for the Runnin’ Rattlers and had a strong team showing. The varsity boys fell just short of repeating as team champions to Austin Akins. Both teams actually tied for the top spot, scoring a low 48 points, but the Rattlers fell just short on the tie breaker. The boys were lead by Anthony Lopez again and his 2nd place finish (16:40) and followed by Shaun Haley in 6th place (17:33). Teammates Travis Rounds, Carlos Hernandez and Whitaker Reid rounded out the top 5 for the varsity boys and picked up critical points in the finally stretch to the keep the Rattlers in contention for the team tittle. Trysten Summers and Dylan Martinez were the final two runners on the varsity boys side and placed 33rd and 37th overall. The varsity boys qualified for the Regional Cross Country meet in Grand Prairie on October 23rd. They hope to bounce back from this loss and compete for a chance to run at the State Championship.

The Junior Varsity teams both had strong showings at the race and show a lot of hope for the future of the Runnin’ Rattlers. The J.V. girls were led by junior Aly Baker and her 7th place finish, while the J.V. boys were led by two seniors Noah Olvera and Alex Reyes placing 27th and 33rd. The final race were the young gun freshman division and the Rattlers had two freshman boys competing. Levi Soto and Jose Gomez represented for the rattlers and placed 13th and 14th overall.
