The men’s varsity Rattler basketball team fell to Akins Friday night, 57-66. On a night where the Rattlers played with great energy and enthusiasm, it was a third quarter lull and the free throw line that was the difference. In the third quarter, the Eagles outscored the Rattlers 19-8. The Rattlers struggled from the line all night going 10-27. Despite being down nine going into the fourth quarter, the Rattlers battled to within five on two different occasions. In the end, the Rattlers could not overcome their poor shooting night from the free throw line.
This loss puts the Rattlers at 4-5 in District 14-6A which is fourth place behind Anderson and Del Valle who are tied at 6-3 and Bowie who is 5-4. The Rattlers have a one game lead for the fourth and final playoff spot over Akins and Manor with their final game of the regular season coming up this Tuesday at Del Valle.
All the Rattlers sub-varsity teams showed flashes of greatness; however, they all came up short as well.
