Boys Varsity Basketball · Rattlers Win 1st District Game on Buzzer Beater

The varsity boys Rattler basketball team earned its first district win of the year in style as Josh DeLeon hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer to win the game.  The Rattlers dominated much of the first half with a great defensive effort holding the Rangers to only 19 points.  In the third quarter, the lead grew to as big as 12 points before Smithson Valley made a slight run to cut the lead to 9 points going into the fourth quarter.  In the fourth quarter, the Rangers caught fire and actually took the lead with about two minutes left in the game.  From that point on, it was a punch – counter punch affair.  With some pressure free throw makes, the Rattlers were able to tie the game and then got a hard fought defensive stop.  With only 13 seconds left on the clock, the Rattles went the length of the court and CJ Valencia found Josh DeLeon in the corner for the 3 point buzzer beater.  The Rattlers edged the Rangers, 59-56.  This was a great team win!!

On the sub-varsity levels, the 9th grade Purple team won, but the 9th grade White team and the JV team both fell short.

The Rattlers will be back in action on Friday night as they take on the NB Canyon Cougars in the Snake Pit.  This will also be the Rattlers’ Middle School Basketball Night.  Teams from both middle schools will be recognized at halftime of the varsity game.

Come on out and PACK the PIT!!!
